The former Minister of National Defense, Vasile Dîncu, declared, on Tuesday, in Brussels, that the legislative initiative regarding the permission of the departmental teams to perform in the Romanian football Superleague, such as the case of CSA Steaua, did not succeed because at that time the political influence of the owner of the FCSB club, Gigi Becali, was much greater.

Also, the PSD MEP let it be understood that even the former president of the party, Marcel Ciolacu, would not have wanted the initiative to pass Parliament as he would have needed the support of FCSB supporters in the electoral campaign for the 2024 presidential elections.
“In the case of Stella, I think it is an abnormal situation. Because more than half of the Superliga teams are financed by public funding. Whether it's county councils, town halls or the ministry, it's the same in the end. And here it seems to me that we should do justice. Either there is no more funding, but that would destroy Romanian football, or let teams like Steaua exist.
But this is not just a matter of legislation. I did not succeed with that initiative because George Becali had a greater influence than me in politics at that time. The election campaign was coming and the president of the Social Democratic Party needed the 60% of Stella supporters he thought he needed to go to the second round. I'm sorry that this happened, because an injustice is being done”said Dîncu in Brussels, where he participated in the conference 'European Values and Excellence: The Legacy of Nadia Comăneci, 50 Years On' in the European Parliament.
The former minister also stated that there are many employees of MApN who would not like CSA Steaua to evolve in Romania's first football league, but he did not want to develop the subject.
“On the other hand, what I found as the Minister of Defense is that there is no desire within the Ministry of Defense to promote the team to League I. I didn't really understand why, this happened a few times. Or I understand, but it's a theme I don't want to develop publicly. But it is a collective fault.
I think it's an aberration, you can't let a team participate in a competition without taking a prize for the place they won on the field. And I don't think the big problem is that the funding is public. I also found a solution, with a mixed financing and with a private promoter and a supporters' association, but this I saw that in the end it was not well received in the ministry. Of course, if I stayed longer, I would do that, but it didn't work out“, said Dîncu, according to Agerpres.
The football team CSA Steaua, from the 2nd League, does not have the right to promote in the Romanian Superliga due to the legislation that does not allow departmental clubs to perform on the first stage.
