American intelligence services have determined that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei opposed the succession policy, which was to ensure the position of supreme leader of Iran to his son Mojtab, the American station CBS reported.

The intelligence agency informed President Donald Trump and a small group of his senior advisers, including Vice President JD Vance.

The elder Khamenei's concerns stemmed from the belief that Mojtaba, 56, “is not very bright and is not fit to be a leader.” He also heard rumors that Modjtaba was having “problems in his personal life.”

In a sense, Trump acknowledged that he had read the information, saying in a Friday interview on Fox News that Mojtaba was “not someone a father would want” and calling him a reckless person.

Mojtaba Khamenei was elected Iran's supreme leader on March 8 after serving as a close associate of his father, who was killed on February 28 in an Israeli missile attack that started the United States and Israel's war on Iran in Operations Epic Fury and Roaring Lion. (PAP)
