Prime Minister Bolojan announces that measures will be taken to “mitigate” prices at the pump

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan declared on Friday, during a visit to Bihor county, that the Government will follow the evolution of fuel prices in order to “mitigate, in a certain formula, their impact”, but emphasized that the price increases cannot be canceled, informs Agerpres.

The Prime Minister said that, due to the conflict in the Middle East and the disruption of the supply chain of crude oil and derivatives, “there was an impact all over the world, an impact that we cannot avoid”.

“Where it depended on us, as it was in the gas sector, we took measures so that there would be no impact, this means that we have sufficient internal sources to allow us to do this, regulating, through an administrative measure, the price, which should not be higher than the one that was in force before the start of the crisis”, said Ilie Bolojan.

Regarding fuel prices, Bolojan said that the Government proposes that the increases be below the level of the price increases for the barrel of oil. Thus, the increases will not be able to be cancelled, but it is possible to mitigate them.

“This is very important, so that this increase is not transferred from one day to the next in the pocket of the Romanians, and on the other hand, in the conditions where the conflict will continue, the supply chains will not settle down, obviously, if the price increases in the next period above a level that becomes alarming, we will take the measures we have at our disposal, not to cancel the price increase, because we cannot do this, but to mitigate, in a certain formula, its impact”, explained Prime Minister Bolojan.

He recalled that the Government extended the funding scheme for transporters, “through which a good part of the increase in the price at the pump will be taken over by the excise duty deduction mechanism”.
