Iran fired seven missiles at two Gulf countries. US Army announcement

Iran fired seven missiles at Kuwait and Bahrain, the US military said on Saturday, adding that six were intercepted and the last missed its target, according to AFP and Reuters.

“Iran launched seven ballistic missiles towards Kuwait and Bahrain (…) according to initial assessments, six were intercepted and the seventh missed its intended target,” the US military wrote on X, adding that there were no casualties among its ranks at this time and denying any damage to one of its infrastructures in Bahrain.

The reaction came after Iran's Revolutionary Guards had previously said they had struck “enemy bases” in the region following US bombing of Iran's radar facilities.

Kuwait's air defense intercepted missile and drone attacks of unknown origin, state media reported, while sirens sounded in Bahrain and residents were urged to take cover.

Escalating conflict complicates peace efforts

US forces struck Iranian coastal radar sites on Saturday after shooting down drones fired by Iran in the direction of the Strait of Hormuz, the US military said in a new escalation complicating efforts to end the conflict between the two countries.

The US military believes the four Iranian drones were targeting maritime traffic in the region, a US official told Reuters. The Revolutionary Guards said they also fired on four oil tankers trying to cross the strait without his permission.

US Central Command said it then struck Iran's surveillance stations at Goruk and Qeshm Island, both located in the Strait of Hormuz.

The US and Iran have held mostly indirect talks to reach a tentative agreement to end the war that began three months ago, leaving issues such as Iran's nuclear program for further negotiations.

However, amid periodic clashes, an agreement has remained elusive for the time being. As part of any deal, Tehran wants access to billions of dollars in revenue from oil exports, waivers from sanctions on crude exports, lifting of the US blockade of its ports and control of the Straits.
