Norilsk Nickel won in two categories of the “Leaders of Responsible Business” award. The results of 2025 were announced by the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP).
101 companies submitted applications to participate in the award. When considering them, we took into account the indicators recorded in authoritative sustainable development ratings, as well as the contribution of companies to solving socially significant problems using the example of their corporate programs. The assessment took place in three stages, with 32 companies reaching the final. At the same time, two applications from Norilsk Nickel received high praise – in the categories “For contribution to the development of human potential” and “For contribution to achieving the goals of the climate agenda.”
The first of the programs, “90 years of caring for people,” was timed to coincide with the 90th anniversary of Norilsk Nickel. It was conceived as a holistic story about how the company develops human potential: internally – through personnel decisions and concern for the well-being of employees, externally – through social initiatives in the territories where the company's enterprises operate.
It combines all the company's core values, updated in 2024: safety, efficiency and care for people. It included the long-term program “Human Capital Development” and related personnel initiatives, an updated collective agreement and social package, and large-scale investments in cities.
The social significance of the program is determined by the scale of the company and its role in the Arctic and Russian regions. Norilsk Nickel is the largest industrial company in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, the city-forming city for Norilsk and Dudinka (Krasnoyarsk Territory), Monchegorsk and Zapolyarny (Murmansk Region). In the anniversary year, the Norilsk Nickel team was awarded the Order for Valorous Labor. This high assessment by the state emphasizes the role of people and their professionalism as a key resource for the company’s development.
The second program, “System for monitoring buildings, structures and permafrost,” became one of the best in the category “For contribution to achieving national goals and objectives of the climate agenda.”
“This is one of the most important areas that Norilsk Nickel specialists are working on today. After all, climate change is a significant threat to Arctic ecosystems and human life. The pace of climate change poses obvious risks to industrial and civil infrastructure. The Arctic is warming almost four times faster than the planet as a whole. Possible consequences – destruction of buildings, accidents at industrial facilities, environmental damage – are not only local, but also global, given the fragility of Arctic ecosystems,” says Norilsk Nickel.
The implementation of the company's program is aimed at systematically solving this problem. Norilsk Nickel has created a system of continuous monitoring, assessment and management of the stability of buildings and structures in the Norilsk industrial region to ensure the safe and trouble-free operation of facilities.
