US spent nearly $6 billion in first week of war with Iran – The New York Times

According to the publication, after US President Donald Trump demanded “unconditional surrender” from Iran, American officials are preparing for a conflict that could last several weeks.

Congressmen are preparing for the White House's request for additional funding for the military campaign, the article says. At the same time, representatives of the American administration omit that the president can quickly change his mind and declare victory.

The bulk of the costs were ammunition ($1.4 billion) for the strikes and the cost of intercepting Iran's retaliatory attacks with missiles and drones ($1.7 billion), the newspaper points out.

Since February 28, the Israeli and American militaries have struck about 4 thousand targets, which has seriously weakened Iran's ability to launch missiles and UAVs, the NYT notes.

The stated cost amount approximately coincides with the estimate of the Washington Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), located in Washington. The organization's experts estimate that during the first 100 hours of the conflict, the United States spent about $3.7 billion, or about $900 million per day.
