PKP Cargo is getting rid of rolling stock. Hundreds of locomotives are up for sale

PKP Cargo announced proceedings for the sale of 337 locomotives taken out of service. The deadline for submitting applications to participate in the proceedings is March 27, 2026, the company announced on its platform.

In the statement sent to PAP, the company emphasizes that the sale of locomotives is one of the elements of activities aimed at optimizing costs and rationalizing the company's assets. The goal is to adapt the scale of our rolling stock to the actual transport needs and current market demand.

The vehicles intended for sale include locomotives that are out of service or have been out of service for a long time. According to the company, due to the difficult market situation, there are currently no prospects for their re-use in operational activities.

This is not the first announcement about the sale of rolling stock by PKP Cargo. At the beginning of January this year, the company announced that it intended to sell 2,831 wrecks of freight wagons.

In turn, at the beginning of September 2025, the management board of PKP Cargo decided to sell 6,000. 696 pieces of used wagons.

PKP Cargo is a joint-stock company listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The largest shareholder is PKP SA with a 33.01% share in the capital; funds managed by Nationale-Nederlanden PTE have 12.08%, and other shareholders – 54.91%.

In the third quarter of 2025, PKP Cargo generated PLN 7.5 million in profit and PLN 36.1 million in operating profit. During the nine months of 2025, the PKP Cargo Group generated PLN 90.8 million of operating profit, with a net loss of PLN 10.4 million. Revenues from contracts with customers amounted to PLN 2.76 billion. (PAP)
