Putin spoke on the phone with the president of Iran. Then the Russian leader made an urgent appeal

A week after the start of the offensive, Vladimir Putin sent his condolences to Tehran for the victims of the “Israeli-American aggression” and launched an urgent call for an immediate ceasefire, according to Agerpres.
The Kremlin leader expressed deep regret for the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, his family, and the political and military leaders targeted in the attacks.
During the discussion, Putin assured Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian of Moscow's solidarity and stressed the need for a quick return to diplomacy.
“Russia's principled position on the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities has been reaffirmed,” the Russian presidency said about the discussion held by the two leaders on Friday evening.
At the same time, Vladimir Putin specified that he maintains permanent contact with the leaders of the states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), closely monitoring the regional situation.
For his part, Masoud Pezeshkian expressed his gratitude for Russia's solidarity with the Iranian people, who are defending their sovereignty and independence. The Iranian president gave the Russian leader a detailed update on the evolution of the conflict, the Kremlin said.
A day after the conversation with Vladimir Putin, Masoud Pezeshkian officially apologized to neighboring countries for the attacks launched by Iran in the region. Also on Saturday, Iran continued a new wave of intense attacks on the Arab states of the Gulf.
