“Five scenarios” in the calculation so that the fuel price does not reach “double digits”. The Minister of Energy: “The latest stock market quotations show us record levels”

The Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, said on Saturday that the authorities are working “on five scenarios” to keep the price of petrol and diesel in Romania under control, from excise duty reductions to targeted measures for the categories most affected by the increase in fuel prices.

The official, who confirmed that one of the scenarios concerns the reduction of excise duty on diesel and petrol, said it all depends “on the dynamics of the war in the Middle East”.

“Unfortunately, the latest stock market quotations, this morning, show us record levels for the price of Brent oil, and for the ton of diesel, record quotations at an international level (…), something that obviously impacts everything that means prices around the world. (…) It is extremely important for us not to reach double digits”, said Bogdan Ivan, on Saturday, in Bistrita, according to Agerpres.

“We are working on five scenarios”

Bogdan Ivan specified that “another scenario we are discussing at the technical level” refers only to some professional categories.

“At the moment, the most impacted by this increase are transporters and farmers, there is intense activity in the agricultural field this spring, because the activities overlap”, the minister added.

The Minister of Energy said that he will not present the exact scenarios until they are substantiated and a decision is made, but he claims that the authorities are prepared “for any type of intervention in the interest of the Romanians”.

“You cannot enter with a direct ceiling. As a state, you have very clear legal levers related to what you collect as a state and, from this point of view, we are taking into account – a decision that does not take into account the political color of the ruling parties, but takes into account the reality on the ground – for a temporary period, until things stabilize in the Strait of Hormuz and in the Middle East, to act punctually, targeted, to reduces this negative effect”, said Bogdan Ivan.
