At the beginning of March this year, at the site of the Krasnoyarsk Museum of Communications Rostelecom, a free one-month course “Basics of using a smartphone” for people aged 50+ was launched.
The event was organized within the framework of the social project “ABC of the Internet”, implemented throughout the country with the participation of the Social Fund of Russia (SFR).
23 students of the Krasnoyarsk Regional People's University “Active Longevity” took part in the course. Experienced Rostelecom specialists and young volunteers from Krasnoyarsk Pedagogical College No. 2 help them master mobile devices, applications and cybersecurity rules.
“We have accumulated significant experience in holding such events. For example, cyber lessons organized last year showed that older people are very good at understanding information explained to them by young mentors. This is reminiscent of a situation where a granddaughter helps her grandmother figure out how to order groceries online or make a video call in messenger. We were convinced that this format was effective and decided to develop it,” said Andrey Kuznetsov, head of the operation center of the Krasnoyarsk branch of Rostelecom, project supervisor.
One and a half hour classes will be held at the museum once a week. The main emphasis is on the practical part: participants will be able to solve specific problems, such as customizing a smartphone to individual needs, registering on social networks, using digital services of banks and government agencies.
Each listener will receive as a gift a printed illustrated manual developed by Rostelecom and SFR specifically for older people. It will be useful both for independent study and during lessons – participants will be able to take notes during the lesson.
