Care allowance 2026. Who will receive PLN 215.84 per month?

The diagnosis itself, which confirms serious illnesses, is not enough to receive care allowance. The support, which is also called “200 plus for the sick”, requires an appropriate decision or meeting the age criterion.
In times of rising prices – including medicines – every extra zloty matters, and many people do not know that they can receive real support.
Care allowance 2026, or “200 plus for the sick”
While the slogan “care allowance” may be known, the term “200 plus for the sick” does not appear so often in public space. Hence, not everyone knows that in 2026 they can count on PLN 215.84 per month in support to support people with serious illnesses.

As “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna” reminds, care allowance is specific financial assistance for people who, due to illness or disability, need support in everyday activities. The benefit is not indexed every year and its amount is verified every three years.

The benefit is available to four groups:
- disabled children,
- people over 16 years of age with a significant degree of disability,
- people over 16 years of age with a moderate degree (if created before the age of 21)
- every person over 75 years of age.
The certificate of disability and the description of limitations in everyday life are crucial.

Care allowance is not available if the applicant is already entitled to a care allowance (e.g. from ZUS), stays in a facility with free 24-hour care or a family member receives a similar benefit abroad. Many refusals are due to these reasons.
Similar names, different benefits. Care allowance can be confused
As “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna” emphasizes, the disease itself is not enough to receive support. What is decisive is not the name of the disease, but whether it limits independence – e.g. in washing, dressing, communicating or treating. The committees evaluate each case individually based on documentation and description of functioning.

You should also remember a very important difference between two – very similarly named – forms of support. The care allowance is paid by the commune or MOPS, and the care allowance by ZUS or KRUS. These are two different benefits that cannot be received at the same time.
