Cluj University qualified for the semi-finals of the Romanian Football Cup, on Tuesday evening, after defeating FC Hermannstadt with a score of 2-1 (0-0), at the Cluj Arena.

The Sibians opened the scoring through Moonga Simba (52), but “U” reversed the result in the last 20 minutes of the game.

France's Oucasse Mendy (73) restored parity with a scissors kick from the edge of the box, and Ivorian Issouf Macalou (81) scored the winning goal after an individual move.

In the semifinals, the team prepared by Cristiano Bergodi will meet the winner between FC Argeș and Gloria Bistrița (League 2).

Present at the flash-interview, Macalou, the scorer of the decisive goal, spoke about the fabulous success he achieved from the “scissors” against the Sibiu, but also about the game that awaits them on Saturday against FCSB, in the last stage of the regular season of the Super League.

“It's my quality when I'm one on one, I know I can go past the opponent and score that kind of goal, I have the quality to do that kind of action and I'm very happy. It is a very good performance for the club, it is very important for us that we reached the semi-final. We go to the play-offs and play for both trophies, the Cup and the Superliga.

We've been letting people talk since the beginning of the season, everyone's been talking like that. They think we are the weaker team (no – against FCSB), but now we are in the play-offs and we let the world talk. I want us to win every competition we play in, that's the right mindset if we want to do anything at the end of the season“, declared Macalou at the end.

Cristiano Bergodi's side, in 4th place in the Superliga with 51 points with one stage before the end of the regular season, are being praised by their rivals. “U Cluj, first of all, is a good team. In recent years he had very good results, he was also in the European cups. Indeed, the season started poorly, just like CFR and FCSB had started. According to me, it is the most fit team at the moment. I mean as a game, it seems to me the most in shape, over CFR, that's how it seemed to me in the last matches”, said the rapid driver Victor Angelescu.
