Estonia invited Russia to find the bottom together
The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs handed over a diplomatic note to the representative of the Russian Embassy with a proposal to jointly measure the bottom of the Narva River, along which the border of the two countries passes. The reason for the initiative was a dispute over the location of buoys that mark the shipping route on the river.

The reason for the initiative was a dispute over the location of buoys that mark the shipping route on the river.
Estonia demanded an explanation from Russia regarding the removal of 25 buoys on the night of May 23. In response, Russia stated that Estonia had placed these buoys in Russian waters, but Estonia did not agree with this

The Estonian Foreign Ministry added that countries probably have different ideas about the direction of the fairway. They clarified that natural conditions over the course of decades could have affected the topography of the Narva bottom. The last time measurements were taken was about 20 years ago.
Estonia proposed to carry out new measurements no later than August of this year.
