As Axios pointed out, the Kurds have thousands of troops along the Iran-Iraq border and control strategic areas that could be important as the war unfolds. Iraqi Kurds also have close ties to Kurds in Iran.

—It is widely believed and certainly agreed upon [premier Izraela Benjamin] Netanyahu that the Kurds will come out of hiding (…) that they will rise up – said one of the White House officials. Israel has long had close relations with Kurds in Syria, Iraq and Iran.

The portal recalled that during one of the meetings with Donald Trump in the White House, Netanyahu, who “relentlessly” called for attacks on Iran and regime change in that country, advocated turning to the Kurds regarding such actions.
