Swiss tennis player Stan Wawrinka has announced that the 2026 season, in which he will turn 41 years old, will mark the end of his career on the ATP circuit. The multiple Grand Slam champion made the announcement via social media.

Stan Wawrinka announces retirement in 2026: 'Every book has an end'

“Every book has an end. It's time to write the last chapter of my tennis career – 2026 will be my last year on the circuit,” Stan Wawrinka wrote on his official Instagram account.

Perseverance, ambition, sacrifice, success, injuries, obsession, never giving up, discipline, resilience, evolution, ambition and memories, that's how the journey was made.

I want to keep pushing my limits and finish this journey in the best possible way. I still have aspirations in this sport. I have enjoyed every thing that tennis has given me, especially the excitement I have had playing in front of you. I can't wait to see you for the last time,” added the Swiss.

Throughout his career, Stan Wawrinka has won 3 Grand Slam tournaments. The first triumph came at the Australian Open in 2014, when the Swiss beat Rafael Nadal in the final, score 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

A year later, Wawrinka prevailed at Roland Garros, where he defeated Novak Djokovic, score 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. In 2016, at the US Open final, Wawrinka again came back from 0-1 in sets against Novak Djokovic and won 6-7(1), 6-4, 7-5, 6-3.

The Swiss reached the final of Roland Garros once more, in 2017, but Rafael Nadal took revenge then and beat Wawrinka with the score of 6-2, 6-3, 6-1.
