More than 300 Romanians returned to the country in the night from Monday to Tuesday, at Otopeni Airport, with two special flights operated by TAROM.
“I am at Otopeni Airport, where the second assisted repatriation flight from the Middle East landed this night. The two flights landed safely in Romania with 318 Romanian citizens, pilgrims and tourists, in the charter system, organized by travel agencies together with the Tarom company,” Foreign Minister Oana Ţoiu wrote on Facebook on Tuesday morning, quoted by Agerpres.
The Romanians stuck in Israel arrived in Egypt through the Taba border point, being assisted at the border crossing point and at the airport by the consular team and the Romanian Embassy in Cairo, said Oana Ţoiu.
Air traffic to and from Egypt is not affected by the military conflict in the Middle East and the race was scheduled for Monday morning, but there were delays for groups of Romanians who were expected to arrive in Cairo.
The rescheduling of special flights for Monday evening was carried out in coordination with the Romanian and Egyptian authorities, the Romanian Consulate in Cairo and the group organizers, TAROM also reported.
“We have established together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Badr Abdel-Aati, that we will continue constant communication on a bilateral level for the assistance of tourist groups, as well as for the facilitation of transit for special cases. At the same time, we still recommend caution on the part of Romanian citizens in the states of the Middle East and following the official channels,” Țoiu said.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Oana Țoiu declared, on Monday, in a press conference, that there are no Romanians injured in the attacks in Iran, but a significant number are stuck in several states in the region as a result of the closure of the airspace.
The Romanian official stated that more than 14,000 Romanians who are now in the United Arab Emirates are safe.
She emphasized the need for Romanians from the Middle East to register with diplomatic missions and announced a WhatsApp channel for them to receive information.
