Iran's ambassador to Spain, Reza Zabib, warned on Monday that his country “will attack any American base in Europe if necessary”, notes SkyNews.

He said Iran was “a country capable of reacting”.

The Spanish Minister of the Interior has ordered the strengthening of surveillance and security measures throughout Spain, amid possible threats.

The statements come after Spain refused to grant the United States permission to use jointly operated military bases on its territory to launch attacks on Iran, prompting the US to withdraw several KC-135 aircraft from bases in Cadiz and Seville.

The US destroyers USS Bulkeley and USS Roosevelt, which left Cadiz last week, were involved in the attacks on Iran, US authorities confirmed.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on Saturday he rejected what he called unilateral military action by the US and Israel, adding that it represented an escalation that was contributing to a more uncertain and hostile international order.

In a statement published on the “X” platform, Sanchez also said that he also rejects the actions of the Iranian regime and the Revolutionary Guards.

Britain initially refused to allow its bases to be used for an attack on Iran, but on Sunday Prime Minister Keir Starmer authorized their use for “collective self-defence”.
