The President of the United States, Donald Trump, on Sunday evening provided new information about the American military offensive carried out against Iran, stating that the Iranian navy had suffered significant losses.
In a message published on the Truth Social platform, the White House leader announced that US forces destroyed and sank several Iranian military ships.
“I have just been informed that we have destroyed and sunk 9 Iranian Navy ships, some of them relatively large and important. We are now moving on the others – soon they will also be floating to the bottom of the sea! In another attack, we have destroyed most of their naval headquarters. Otherwise, their Navy is doing very well!”, Donald Trump wrote.
According to his statements, the operations targeted both warships and the command infrastructure of the Iranian naval forces.
The American president specified that an Iranian naval command was “largely destroyed” in a separate attack, without giving details of the exact location or timing of the operation.
Earlier, the US military confirmed that it had hit and sunk an Iranian Jamaran-class corvette near the port of Chabahar in the Gulf of Oman, a sign of expanding military action against Iranian targets.
Trump's remarks signal a major escalation in the naval standoff between the United States and Iran as US military operations in the region continue and Washington officials warn that actions will go further until threats considered strategic are neutralized.
