To ensure that seedlings grow strong and healthy, experienced gardeners recommend watering them with an aqueous solution of milk with the addition of a few drops of iodine, an inexpensive pharmaceutical preparation. This method is described on February 25 on the website of the Ukrainian publication “On Pensions.”
Advantages of the method
- Seedlings can be sprayed with milk to protect against diseases and strengthen the plants.
- For spraying, use diluted low-fat milk.
- Treatment is carried out every 10 days.
The essence of the method is that milk creates a thin, barely noticeable film on the surface of the seedlings that protects the plants. Due to the presence of calcium, potassium and other microelements, milk nourishes seedlings with useful substances. Spraying with milk is best suited for seedlings of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and cabbage.
How to prepare a solution and process seedlings
- For spraying, use low-fat or pasteurized milk. Dilute it in settled water at room temperature in a ratio of 1:10.
- Add a couple of drops of iodine to 5 liters of the prepared solution.
- Spraying should be done in the morning or evening on a cloudy but dry day, otherwise direct sunlight can lead to rapid coagulation of the protein and the appearance of white spots on the leaves.
- The treatment should be carried out when several leaves appear on the seedlings.
