Disturbing data on Poles' debt. This is the largest group of bankrupts

The National Debt Register (KRD) is a database that collects information on the debt of individuals and companies. The authors of the report point out that the number of consumer bankruptcies has stabilized after several years of significant increases. Last year, 21,266 people announced it, 79 more than in 2024. According to KRD data, 47 percent bankruptcies from the second half of 2025 were already in the register three years before the bankruptcy was announced.

— On the one hand, the Polish economy has recorded one of the highest growth in the entire European Union, on the other hand, at the same time we are observing a wave of consumer bankruptcies. In the fourth quarter of 2025, GDP grew by about 4%, and at the same time we had a record, almost 5.9 thousand. declared bankruptcies. However, bankruptcies are the result of many years of debt and the lack of a financial cushion, and not a sudden economic downturn. Every fifth Pole has no savings, and 17 percent he has the means to live at most for a month after losing his job – emphasizes Adam Łącki, president of KRD, quoted in the report.
