“They are two different things. The administrator is one, the special administrator is another and the company is another. That should be known by everybody. The factory at the moment is still run by a director and by a board of directors. The special director has some limited powers, as far as I understand at this stage, which has to look after the bankruptcy proceedings, if I'm not mistaken, of this factory. So it's not an administrator, it's a special administrator”said Diana Buzoianu to Digi24.

Asked if she would have taken the same decision in place of the Minister of Economy, the Minister of the Environment replied: “I cannot be in Mr. Darău's place, but what I can say is that I am firmly convinced that Mr. Darău will very clearly evaluate the activity of all the people he appoints”.

“So, I repeat, if the experience gained by this gentleman was taken into account and it turned out that all the conditions are met, I am firmly convinced that Mr. Darău will analyze very carefully all the appointments he makes, to see later whether or not the activities that must be undertaken are carried out. That is my confidence”added the minister.

She added: “He is a man who had a flagrant and who managed to arrest some corrupt people who were stealing from there, who were stealing exactly from that factory. He is a special administrator, attention. And I understand from you that he has a doctorate in law. I don't know more than that, but based on this information, if this man will be evaluated and it will turn out that in the next period he will do a much better job than who was previously appointed. (…) I am firmly convinced that Mr. Darău will do this analysis”.

“I can't do all this analysis because it was not my decision, but from the information you yourself have given here, it seems that he is a man who has the courage to fight against people who steal, and it seems that he is a man who has a doctorate education”Diana Buzoianu emphasized.

The statements come in the context in which the USR Minister of Economy, Irineu Darău, on Tuesday appointed Viorel Salvador Caragea, former commander of the Police Inspectorate of Gorj County, to the position of special administrator at the Sadu Mechanical Plant, one of the strategic armament factories in Romania.

The former head of IPJ Gorj has a diverse professional background. He is a machine construction engineer, a graduate of the Faculty of Law and holder of a doctorate and several master's degrees. In the police, in 2013, he led an extensive action at UM Sadu, in a delicate file regarding the illegal purchase of ammunition. “Besides being a policeman, I'm a very applied mechanical engineer”Caragea told G4Media.

Politically, however, Caragea had a controversial evolution. He was a member of the USR for only one day, leaving after the former MEP Clotilde Armand demanded his exclusion from the party, on the grounds that he was involved in sexual harassment and influence peddling. Four years later, he joined the AUR, claiming, however, that he was only a sympathizing member and that he attended only two party events.
