During the parliamentary debate, Prime Minister Donald Tusk publicly defended Krajewski. The allegations reported by PiS concerned, among others, allowing the signing of the EU-Mercosur agreement and consent to the EU-Ukraine agreement – according to PiS – unfavorable for Poland. Representatives of the ruling coalition argued that the request was of a political nature and that the current minister was rebuilding the agricultural sector after the actions of the previous government.
A day earlier, the parliamentary agriculture committee issued a negative opinion on the motion for a vote of no confidence in Krajewski.
A motion of no confidence in a minister may be submitted by at least 69 MPs. A majority of the statutory number of members is required to adopt the motion.
The Minister of Agriculture talks about political revenge
The Minister of Agriculture, Stefan Krajewski, stated on Thursday that the no-confidence motion submitted by PiS against him is a political revenge because, during his term of office, inspections and audits began in institutions subordinated to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and reports were submitted to the prosecutor's office.
PiS MP Krzysztof Ciecióra argued in the Sejm on Thursday for a motion of no confidence in the Minister of Agriculture. In his opinion, the minister is passive in the face of the biggest crisis in agriculture in years and allowed the signing of agreements with Mercosur and Ukraine.
“Farmers have lost profitability in virtually every area of activity. We expect that the minister will ensure sales and liquidity on the market,” Ciecióra said. He added that Krajewski promised to appeal against the Mercosur agreement to the CJEU and reminded that he had 11 more days to do so.
PiS MP Anna Gembicka, presenting the position of her club, repeated accusations against Krajewski for not challenging the agreement with Mercosur – despite promises. She added that the act on active farmers vetoed by the president was in fact – in her opinion – intended to hide the lack of money for agriculture in the next EU budget, and the minister is only effective in handing out jobs to party activists.
