The Gliwice diocese analyzes the issue of a refund of over PLN 27.3 million in funding from the European Union by the parish of St. Jacek in Bytom. Spokesman for the diocese of Fr. Krystian Piechaczek said in a conversation with PAP that for the parish “to bear such a weight is impossible.”

Administrative proceedings regarding the refund of over PLN 27.3 million funding from the EU by the parish of St. Jacek, were initiated to regain incorrectly used support.
“For such a single parish, it is impossible to bear such a burden. If there are any premises to appeal against this decision, we will definitely suggest it to the parish of St. Krystian Piechaczek.
He pointed out that all legal possibilities would be analyzed in detail.
Administrative proceedings apply to two projects that were implemented in 2018-2021. Both using support from the Regional Operational Program of the Śląskie Voivodeship for 2014-2020. In the first case, for the revitalization of degraded areas, in the second case for the behavior, protection and promotion of cultural heritage.
As part of the works conducted The church underwent extensive renovation, including Renovation of walls, paneling and ceilings, replacement of electrical installation, maintenance of benches and organs, modernization of the northern tower and the signature (small tower), renovation of the roof and facade, as well as the adaptation of chapels for didactic and exposition purposes.
“In both cases, the call for reimbursement of funds is the result of the termination of the funding agreement, as a consequence of finding the presentation of documents confirming untruth in order to obtain funding. The presentation of documents took place at the stage of applying for co -financing and signing the grant agreement and concerned confirmation of securing the funds for own contribution” – the spokesman of the Marshal's Office provided. Sławomir Gruszka.
He explained that to sign the contract for co -financing of projects it was necessary for the parish to provide documents confirming the security of its own contribution. Such documents in 2018 were presented. “In the course of pending prosecutor's proceedings, the voivodship board knew that The bank does not confirm the deposits for the amounts that resulted from the documents presented by the beneficiary” – the spokesman pointed out.
Therefore, in October 2024, the management of the province. Silesia decided to terminate the contracts for co -financing, and in April 2025 he adopted resolutions that formally initiated administrative proceedings regarding the refund of the subsidy (over PLN 27.3 million) together with interest.
