Harald V is the oldest living European monarch. He has worn the Norwegian crown since 1991. In recent years, he has been hospitalized several times due to upper respiratory infections.

In early March 2024, the monarch was hospitalized in Malaysia, where a temporary pacemaker was implanted in him. A few years earlier, in 2020, at Rikshospitalet in Oslo, Harald underwent surgery to replace the heart valve that had been implanted in him in 2005.
