The birth rate in Russia has fallen to a historic low — Rosstat
In the first half of 2024, 599.6 thousand children were born in Russia – 16.6 thousand less than in the same period in 2023.
The birth rate in 2023 was the lowest in the history of modern Russia since 1999. In June of this year, the number of newborns fell by 6% to 98.6 thousand. This a record low figure, because their number has never dropped below 100 thousand.
In the first half of 2024, natural population decline also increased – it amounted to 321.5 thousand people, which is 49 thousand more than the same period in 2023. The population decline was compensated by a migration increase of 20.1%.
