Specialists of the Directorate for Specially Protected Territories of the Krasnoyarsk Territory counted 1,718 American mink and 280 river otters. Monitoring was carried out from October 6 to November 28, 2025 in protected areas.
The leader in the number of minks was the Arga reserve in the Achinsk, Bogotol and Nazarovo districts – 167 individuals were found there. In second place is the “Krasnoyarsky” reserve with 143 minks, in third place is “Kandatsky” with 120 animals. The most noticeable increase was recorded in the Motyginsky Multi-Island Nature Reserve: if in 2024 there were 9 minks, now there are 18.

There were 280 river otters in 20 protected areas. Most of them were in the north of the region – 55 individuals live in the Makovsky reserve (Birilyussky and Yenisei districts). In “Bolshe-Kemchugsky” they counted 38 otters, in “Kandatsky” – 36. The record holder for the increase was the “Krasnoyarsky” reserve: there the number of otters increased by 550% – from two to 11.
When conducting censuses, inspectors lay routes along the banks of rivers and lakes, recording animal tracks. According to experts, an experienced observer can not only distinguish a mink’s track from those of other predators, but also determine the sex and age of the animal.
