The age of the gear in the museum’s collection is from 9 to 10.5 thousand years. All of them are made of deer antler. The fishing hook is already close in appearance to modern examples, but the principle of fastening was different: instead of the usual loop, small notches-notches were used at the base, which held the rope and prevented it from slipping.
Another fishing device is a harpoon 27 centimeters long. According to the researchers, its creation required real skill.
First, the horn was sawed with a stone ax, then split lengthwise using chisels. From the half received using stone chisels The teeth and bits were cut out, and the finished product was polished with an abrasive stone. This technology indicates a high level of processing of materials.

The researchers emphasize that fishing in those days was not just a trade, but a fundamental survival skill. Success largely depended on the ability to make a reliable tool with your own hands and accurately calculate the behavior of the fish.
