I gave up the sea and didn’t regret it: this vacation turned out to be cheaper and more interesting

For many years the sea was considered the main symbol of summer holidays. However, in recent years, more and more Russians are choosing a different format of travel – without beaches, crowds of tourists and high prices. Experts note: for a full-fledged reboot, it is not at all necessary to go to the coast. Moreover, such vacations are often cheaper and bring more impressions.

Why do tourists abandon the sea?

According to the vice-president of the Russian Union of Travel Industry, Yuri Barzykin, today travelers are increasingly relying on emotions, nature and new experiences, rather than on a standard beach holiday.

“Domestic tourism is becoming more diverse. People are interested in eco-trails, mountain routes, small historical towns, gastronomic festivals and natural attractions. Such a vacation often turns out to be more eventful than a traditional trip to the sea,” the expert notes.

In addition, vacations away from popular resorts can often significantly reduce the cost of accommodation and food.

Where to look for your dream vacation

One of the most affordable options remains traveling to small cities with a rich history. Suzdal, Ples, Torzhok, Rybinsk, Yelets and dozens of other Russian cities offer an atmosphere of leisurely relaxation, ancient architecture and interesting excursion programs.

Natural destinations do not lose popularity either. National parks, lakes, mountainous areas and nature reserves allow you to spend several days in silence, away from the bustle of the city.

Short trips of two to three days are becoming especially popular. This format helps to change the situation without serious expenses for travel and accommodation.

What can you save on?

Experts advise paying attention to traveling on weekdays. The cost of hotels and guest houses during this period is often noticeably lower.

Another way to cut costs is to choose neighboring small towns rather than large tourist centers. Often this is where the most interesting natural and cultural sites are located, and prices remain significantly lower.

Travelers are also advised to book accommodation in advance and plan their route on their own, without overpaying for package deals.

Psychologists note that the quality of a vacation is determined not by the number of stars a hotel has or the distance to the sea.

“For a person to recover, a change of environment, new experiences, the opportunity to reduce stress and get out of the usual rhythm are important. These tasks can be easily solved without a beach holiday,” explains psychologist, candidate of psychological sciences Galina Soldatova.

Sometimes a few days among forests, lakes or ancient streets of a small town are much more memorable than a week at a crowded resort.
