A Polish commune wants to introduce “baby baths” for dogs. He will pay extra for their adoption


— The idea was born from the need to provide appropriate conditions for dogs caught from the commune. We need to look for systemic solutions and try new activities, said mayor Jarosław Muchowski.

Grant after signing the adoption contract
The program is intended to apply to every person from Poland who decides to adopt a dog caught in the Sońsk commune. After signing the adoption agreement, you will be able to submit an application for payment of PLN 1.5 thousand. zloty.
However, the commune provides for a number of conditions. The applicant will have to, among others: demonstrate that they have a permanent source of income – e.g. based on an employment contract, PIT for the previous year or another document confirming their financial situation.
— The adopter will sign a declaration that he or she is aware of the responsibilities related to caring for the dog and will treat it as a family member, not an object. – emphasized the mayor.
Officials will be able to check the animal's living conditions and welfare at any time. The program covers a maximum of two adoptions per year by one person.
Obligations and possible refund
The owner will be obliged to report the dog's disappearance or death within seven days. In case of negligence, the funds received will be refunded.

All dogs leaving the shelter are fully veterinary – dewormed, vaccinated and microchipped. If the animal is caught again, it will be easy to identify the owner, who may be charged with the costs of transport and intervention.
Dogs from the commune go to the shelter in Pawłów. Currently, there are 26 animals from Sońsk there.

The cost of catching one dog is several hundred zlotys. In addition, there are expenses for veterinary care – vaccinations, deworming, microchipping and treatment – which in total may amount to PLN 1,000 to PLN 2,000. zloty.
For each day of a dog's stay in the shelter, the commune pays PLN 20, or approximately PLN 600 per month.
— If the dog stays there for several years, the costs increase to tens of thousands of zlotys – Muchowski noted.
According to the authorities, the program can therefore reduce long-term expenses and at the same time improve the fate of animals.
After the councilors adopt the resolution, the document will be published in the Official Journal of the Masovian Voivodeship. The program could come into force in mid-March.
