Prime Minister Donald Tusk and the head of the Norwegian government, Jonas Gahr Støre, announced a new chapter in bilateral relations. During the meeting at the military training ground, the leaders announced intensive work on the formal structuring of strategic cooperation, with particular emphasis on defense and joint support for Ukraine.
The meeting of both prime ministers took place on Monday at the Dęba-Lipa Land Forces Training Center in Podkarpacie. This place was not accidental – this is where the joint project is carried out Camp Jomsborgunder which instructors from Norway and other Nordic and Baltic countries train soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Military innovations and a shield over Poland
The main topic of the talks was strengthening relations in the area of security. Donald Tusk emphasized that Warsaw and Oslo have identical views on supporting Kiev in the fight against Russian aggression, but they also see huge potential in their own industrial cooperation.
In this context, the head of the Polish government recalled the Polish anti-drone defense system “San”. – We do it together with our Norwegian friends – Tusk noted, pointing to the specific fruits of technological cooperation between the two countries.
Norway joins the network of Polish alliances
The Norwegian Prime Minister did not spare words of appreciation for the dynamics of relations between the two countries. Thanking Poland for providing training grounds for Ukrainian defenders, Jonas Gahr Støre made a strong political declaration:
“Poland and Norway cooperate without any cracks. I don't think there is any country with which Norway has become closer than Poland in the last four years – at the strategic, political and values level.”
Donald Tusk placed this agreement in the broader context of Poland building a strong security network in Europe. After signing a treaty with France, finalizing a new agreement with Great Britain and deepening relations with Germany, it was time to formalize the partnership with Oslo. Teams from both countries are to immediately start working on a new agreement, which – as the Polish Prime Minister announced – will quickly lead to a “positive ending”.
