A new vision of Ukraine's relations with Belarus. Volodymyr Zelensky writes the script

“Ideally, Ukraine and Belarus would be members of the European Union. I don't know if Belarusians support this, but from the point of view of economy, geopolitics and independence, it is right” – said Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview for “Dzerkala”.
According to the Ukrainian president, the Belarusian authorities are conducting anti-European propaganda which “gives only one-sided signals: that there will be restrictions on their business and development in Belarus, that prices will be high and salaries low, and that people will beg.” Zelensky emphasized that he considers Belarusians to be a wise nation and that Belarus's possible membership in the European Union will be the decision of the people.

The President of Ukraine stressed that if Belarus is governed by free authorities that respect the independence of Ukraine, Ukraine will also respect the independence of Belarus. “The best that can be is peaceful relations in which we respect each other's sovereignty and missiles do not fly from one country to another,” Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian president emphasized that he would like the war to end and relations between Minsk and Kiev to change. “After all, it was not the Belarusians who started the war against Ukraine. I believe this is the most reasonable choice and the status in which Belarusians should remain,” he said.
