One person was killed and 24 others were injured after multiple explosive devices detonated at midnight in western Ukraine's Lviv, national police said on Sunday.
“It has been preliminarily determined that improvised explosive devices were detonated,” the police said on the Telegram channel.
Police said the first explosion occurred after a patrol team arrived at the scene of a suspected burglary at a convenience store.
The second explosion followed the arrival of a second crew, Lviv prosecutors announced, according to CNN.
A 23-year-old policewoman was killed and a patrol car and a civilian vehicle were damaged, the prosecutor's office said.
The mayor of Lviv, Andrii Sadovii, qualified the incident as a terrorist act. Authorities have not yet revealed who is suspected of carrying out the attack.
The Lviv regional prosecutor's office said it had opened an investigation into “a terrorist act that caused serious consequences,” but added that the circumstances were not clear.
