Dermatologist with 20 years of experience, candidate of medical sciences Valeria Yablochko dispelled popular myths about the connection between sweets and rashes. According to her, cited by Yamal 1, blaming desserts for everything is not always correct.

The expert explained that there is a connection between sweets and acne, but it is not direct. Foods with a high glycemic index increase insulin production, which stimulates hormones that affect the sebaceous glands. However, the appearance of acne depends on a complex of factors: genetics, hormones and lifestyle.

Dark and bitter chocolate contain less sugar and more antioxidants, so they are good for the skin. But white chocolate and candies with a high sugar content are more likely to provoke inflammation. If you want something sweet, the dermatologist advises choosing fruits, berries, dried fruits without added sugar or honey in moderation. These foods do not cause a sharp spike in insulin.

Among the popular myths, Yablochko named the opinion that dairy products are harmful – they normally do not cause acne unless there is an individual intolerance. Fatty foods also do not directly provoke rashes, but can affect the condition of the skin through general inflammation.

Skin quality is affected by stress, lack of sleep, lack of water and vitamins, sudden climate change and even the habit of touching your face with your hands. The doctor recommends not eliminating sweets completely, but maintaining a balance, choosing foods with less sugar, maintaining hygiene and leading a healthy lifestyle.
