The head of the Ukrainian state indicated that it “really hurts Trump to see” the losses that Ukraine is suffering due to the war.
“Perhaps some of them, internal American affairs, are even more important for him, I am sure, than this war. But in any case, I believe that he can really complete it,” Zelensky said.
However, the president shared with Morgan that he did not know how to talk about Trump's relationship with the illegitimate Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“I want to be honest, this is not a matter of trust or lack thereof. He has a relationship that I cannot evaluate or understand. This is something unknown. But they have some kind of relationship, I am sure. And therefore, it is sometimes very, very painful for me that his attitude towards Putin, it seems to me, is better than Putin deserves,” Zelensky said.
Context
Trump has repeatedly stated that he has “It's always been a great relationship” with Putin. But after he failed to quickly reach a peace agreement to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian war, the US president began to say he was disappointed with Putin.
In December 2025, the US President indicated that Putin allegedly wants to see Ukraine succeed and may agree to a trilateral meeting with him and President Zelensky. “Putin was very sincere in his desire for Ukraine to succeed,” said the head of the White House.
