The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, said on Tuesday that he wants legislative changes to provide protection to medical personnel, after the case of the doctor assaulted on Monday evening by the family of a patient at the County Hospital in Târgu Jiu.

The official stated that he had a discussion in this regard with the College of Doctors.

“We also discussed with the president of the College of Doctors from Romania, Cătălina Poiană, to change the law. It seems crazy to me that in 2026 the Minister of Health will come on TV and tell people “please don't go to hospitals to beat the doctors”, but that's the reality we live in, unfortunately”, said Alexandru Rogobete, quoted by News.ro.

The Minister of Health believes that “clear, concrete, simple legislative measures” are needed to protect medical personnel, who must be defended “from such characters”.

“I'm referring to protective measures for medical personnel and, why not, let's consider that such manifestations can be included in the area of outrage”, he also said.
