Jeffrey Epstein's brother disputes the FBI's conclusions about his death: “I am more and more convinced that he was murdered”

Mark Epstein, the brother of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, reiterated on BFMTV on Monday the doubts he has been expressing for months regarding the true reasons for Jeffrey's death, which authorities say committed suicide in prison while awaiting sentencing, according to News.ro.
On the day of his brother's death, Mark Epstein says he went to the scene to identify the body, accompanied by two medical examiners. “They came out of the autopsy and said they couldn't conclude that it was a suicide because it looked too much like a murder,” he told BFMTV.
For the FBI, however, there is no doubt: “Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York on August 10, 2019,” investigators wrote in a statement published by the US justice system in July 2025.
But this did not convince Mark Epstein.
“On the initial death certificate, under the heading “cause of death”, it was mentioned: pending further studies”, Mark Epstein told BFMTV.
Mark Epstein is convinced his brother was murdered
“During the 2016 election between Hillary and Trump, Jeffrey said, and I quote, 'if I said what I knew about the two candidates, the election would have to be annulled.' I accuse the Ministry of Justice of hiding Jeffrey's murder”, he declared, also on BFMTV.
He made similar statements to NBC on July 19, 2025, after the publication of the FBI's findings.
“I'm afraid my brother has been murdered,” he said, adding: “I'm becoming more and more convinced that he was murdered and everyone who examines the facts is coming to the same conclusion, isn't it?” .
“The conclusion that Epstein committed suicide is supported by video surveillance footage from the common area of the Special Detention Unit (SHU) where Epstein was being held at the time of his death,” the FBI said in its statement released last summer, explaining that “any person entering or attempting to enter the floor where Epstein's cell in the SHU common area was located would have been videotaped.”
However, the FBI claims that no one entered the SHU floors “from the time Epstein was locked in his cell at approximately 10:40 p.m. on August 9, 2019, until approximately 6:30 a.m. the next morning.”
The death of the American criminal is marked by unclear circumstances. The medical examiner hired by Epstein's brother, Michael Baden, said on Oct. 30, 2019, on “Fox & Friends” that Epstein, 66, had multiple injuries — including a fractured cervical vertebrae — “extremely unusual in cases of suicidal hanging and much more common in cases of homicidal strangulation.”
In June 2023, a report by the inspector general of the Department of Justice highlighted a series of negligence and dysfunctions that led to the death of Jeffrey Epstein in the federal prison in Manhattan. “For reasons that remain unclear,” commented the New York Times, “prison staff allowed Epstein to accumulate blankets, sheets, bedding and extra clothes, even though he had already tried to hang himself.”
Another surprising decision was to leave the American criminal without cellmates for a whole day, even on the eve of the discovery of the body. However, no inmate provided information “suggesting that anyone helped Epstein commit suicide or containing credible information suggesting that his cause of death was other than suicide,” the report states.
