Robert Duvall, American actor best known for his roles in The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, has died at the age of 95, according to the announcement made by his family on his Facebook page.
The actor's death was announced on Monday by his wife, Luciana.
“Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend and one of the greatest actors of our time. Bob died peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort,” she wrote, as quoted by The Independent.
Duvall, an actor with a career spanning 70 years, won an Academy Award for his role in Tender Mercies (1983), and over the years has starred in famous productions such as The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, To Kill a Mockingbird and more, People magazine wrote.
“To the world, he was an Oscar-winning actor, a director, a storyteller. To me, he was simply everything,” Luciana continued.
“For each of his many roles, Bob gave his all to his characters and the truth of the human spirit they represented. In doing so, he leaves us all with something lasting and unforgettable. Thank you for the years of support you showed Bob and for giving us this time and privacy to celebrate the memories he leaves behind,” said Robert Duvall's wife.
Robert Selden Duvall was born on January 5, 1931, in San Diego, California, and graduated in acting in 1953, at Principia College in Elsah, Illinois, and later served in the army for two years, being stationed in Korea, according to Agerpres.
When he returned to the United States he studied theater under Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater in New York.
