Zelensky Nominates Serhii Koretsky for Prime Minister of Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has submitted the nomination of Serhii Koretsky, the head of Naftogaz, for the position of Prime Minister. This information was shared in an official statement.
Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk announced that the Verkhovna Rada will address the nomination shortly, following established procedures.
Earlier in the day, Zelensky referred to Koretsky as “probably the most qualified person” for the role of Prime Minister. He mentioned a planned meeting between Koretsky and the Servant of the People faction, which reportedly lasted over an hour, with sources indicating that Koretsky made a generally positive impression on the members of Parliament.
As discussions about Koretsky’s potential appointment emerged, lawmaker Yaroslav Zheleznyak from the Holos party stated that Koretsky is “definitely a good candidate.”
On July 13, Zheleznyak and another deputy, Oleksii Honcharenko, informed that the Verkhovna Rada would consider the dismissal of Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko on July 14, and on July 16, the appointment of a new government head, as well as a new Minister of Defense and a new Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Rada supported Svyrydenko’s resignation on the scheduled date.
