Over 70 Israeli deputies voted on Wednesday an appeal to the Government for the annexation of the Westordan, in order to “withdraw from the agenda of any Palestinian state project,” informs AFP, taken by Agerpres.
Adopted with 71 votes for and 13 votes against, the text has no value of law, but wants to assert “natural, historical and legal law” of Israel on this Palestinian territory.
In this vote, supported by the representatives of the right -wing coalition of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but also by the opposition deputies, the Israeli elected officials state that the annexation of this territory “will strengthen the state of Israel and its security and will prevent any resumption of the fundamental right of the Jewish people to peace and security in his homeland.”
The Palestinian authority reacted, qualifying this vote as “a direct attack on the rights of the Palestinian people,” according to Hussein Al-Sheikh, the Secretary General of the Palestine Liberation (OEP).
“These unilateral Israeli actions are a flagrant violation of international law,” Sheikh added on the X platform.
About 500,000 Israelis live in the colonies in the West Bank, in the middle of three million Palestinians. Israeli colonization is periodically denounced by the UN as illegal and representing one of the main obstacles to a sustainable peace solution between Israeli and Palestinians.
