Dozens of dogs from the horror shelter in Vrancea have been relocated

73 dogs from the Suraia shelter, Vrancea county, were relocated by Sunday afternoon. The takeover and relocation operation is in full swing.

“The Vrancea County Police Inspectorate informs that today as well, policemen from the Animal Protection Bureau are at the animal shelter located in the town of Suraia. The purpose of the presence of the policemen is to ensure that the activities of retrieving and relocating animals in the shelter are carried out in legal and safe conditions, as well as to prevent any incidents“, transmitted, on Sunday, IPJ Vrancea.
The police maintain permanent contact with the representatives of the shelter, the animal protection associations, the NGOs present and with the competent authorities, they monitor the way in which the animals are taken, so that it is done in appropriate conditions of protection and well-being, they verify compliance with the legislation in force regarding the protection of animals, they ensure order and public safety in the area.
“Up to this moment, take-over solutions have been identified for 73 dogs, they have already been relocated with the support of associations, NGOs and natural persons, the activities being carried out for all the animals in the location”, the police also sent.
The associations involved in reporting the case and taking over the animals are constantly sending updates of the situation on the ground, satisfied that, finally, the animals are receiving the care they need.
Three people were placed under judicial control for 60 days, and the activity of the dog shelter in Vrancea was suspended, after the police and prosecutors discovered the mistreatment and killing of several animals. Authorities say operations at the shelter are currently being conducted according to legal procedures to allow safe adoptions.
The searches took place on Friday, February 13, following reports of improper treatment of animals. During the investigation, the police officers collected documents and evidence from the homes of four people and from two workplaces of a commercial company.
The investigations cover crimes such as the intentional killing of animals, animal torture, abuse of office and intellectual forgery. At the same time, a separate file was opened for the mutilation of animals, under the coordination of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Focșani Court.
The authorities state that, according to the law, animals can be placed in other shelters or entrusted to protection organizations only if there is an imminent danger to their life or health. Also, according to sanitary-veterinary regulations and ANSVSA procedures, dogs must be identified, microchipped, medically evaluated and sterilized before relocation.
