British and Canadian visitors will be able to travel to China without a visa starting Tuesday, February 17, the Chinese authorities announced on Sunday, confirming the announcements made by the leaders of the two countries following recent official visits to Beijing, reports AFP.
“Ordinary passport holders from these countries can enter China without a visa for business, tourism, visiting relatives or friends, exchange or transit, for a period not exceeding 30 days,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced, adding that this policy will be in effect until December 31.
The announcement follows the visits made to Beijing in January by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. They expressed their desire to strengthen bilateral relations with China, at a time of sharp cooling of relations with the USA.
The two leaders reported progress in relations with Beijing, especially in terms of visa-free visits to China.
The decision announced by Beijing on Sunday aims to “further facilitate exchanges between people from China and other countries”, explained the Chinese ministry in its statement.
