US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday, after his historic speech at the Munich Security Conference, that the United States will not abandon its obligation to end the war in Ukraine, reports Reuters.

In an interview with Bloomberg in Munich, the head of American diplomacy also gave a figure for Russia's losses in the war. According to Marco Rubio, the Russians are losing between 7,000 and 8,000 soldiers per week.

The toll corresponds to figures advanced by the General Staff of the Ukrainian Forces, which said in its report on Saturday that Russian forces had lost 1,070 soldiers in the last day. In total, Ukraine's General Staff says Russia has lost about 1,252,020 troops in Ukraine since the start of its full-scale invasion, according to the Kyiv Independent.

What Rubio said about the war in Ukraine

Marco Rubio, in a question-and-answer session at the Munich Security Conference, said the issues to be resolved had been “narrowed” but “to the most difficult questions” and the situation remained complicated.

“We don't know if the Russians are serious about ending the war. They say they are. We're going to continue to test that. I don't think anybody in this room would be opposed to a negotiated solution to this war as long as the terms are fair and sustainable, and that's our goal, which we're going to continue to pursue even as all these other things continue to happen in terms of sanctions and so forth,” Rubio said.
