Ukrainian military naval drones struck a $400 million Russian submarine capable of launching Kalibr cruise missiles while it was stationed in the Black Sea port of Novorossiisk, according to a statement from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

According to the SBU, the attack was carried out with Ukrainian-made “Sub Sea Baby” drones, EFE and Agerpres agencies report.

“As a result of the explosion, the submarine suffered serious damage and was taken out of service,” the SBU statement said.

At the time of the attack, the submarine in question was carrying four Kalibr missile launchers, according to the SBU, which recalls that Russia was forced to withdraw its fleet from the Black Sea to the port of Novorossiisk due to repeated Ukrainian drone attacks on its ships while stationed in the Crimean peninsula.
