Poles will have their own Starlink. Satellites may be built in Poland

The agreement was signed on Friday at the Ministry of Development. It is intended to be the foundation of cooperation in the implementation of European secure satellite communications programs, with particular emphasis on the IRIS2 program, with a total budget of EUR 10.6 billion (approx. PLN 44.6 billion).
IRIS2 is a key EU project that aims to place approximately 290 satellites in low and medium Earth orbit. This is intended to ensure a stable and secure satellite communications system for governments, businesses and EU citizens. — The IRIS2 satellite constellation is being designed to be the European Starlink, providing independent access to satellite telecommunications, says Business Insider, president of the management board of Creotech Instruments SA, Ph.D. Grzegorz Brona.

The Polish company signed an agreement with Eutelsat. “Some of these satellites could be built in Poland”
As he emphasizes, Eutelsat currently has the largest experience in Europe in operating the so-called communication mega constellation. — Its flagship constellation is OneWeb, currently composed of over 600 active satellites. This constellation achieved full operational capabilities in 2023. It is currently used alongside Starlink in Ukraine, he adds.
The scope of cooperation will primarily cover the development and adaptation of satellite platforms produced by Creotech Instruments. The parties are to jointly develop the mission concept, system architecture and operational solutions.
— IRIS2 will be Europe's largest independent communications venture. This project will use both OneWeb satellites and new satellites deployed in various Earth orbits, from 500 to 30,000. km from Earth. Some of these satellites could be built in Poland. Our country already has specific competences for this purpose, adds Brona.

The president of Creotech Instruments boasts about his success. He talks about a “breakthrough for the Polish space sector”
The talks also include cooperation in the area of quantum technologies. Both parties plan to jointly develop and test components compatible with IRIS2 as well as future European secure communications programs. The signed agreement also provides for an analysis of the possibilities of delivering space and ground subsystems by Creotech Instruments and Creotech Quantum.
This includes: about satellite platforms, avionics, and secure communication subsystems. The cooperation will also cover the IRIS2 ground segment – the development of terminals and ground stations supporting secure government services, localization of production, integration, tests and operational support in Poland.
— Locating the production of IRIS2 satellites in Poland using Polish intellectual property rights would be a breakthrough for the Polish space sector – emphasizes the president of the management board of Creotech Instruments.
