Garry Kasparov does not see the end of the war in Ukraine: “It will continue as long as Putin has the resources”

The war in Ukraine has become the foundation on which the Kremlin regime rests, and Vladimir Putin can no longer stop it without endangering his own power, argues Russian dissident Garry Kasparov.

Russian dissident and member of the Anti-War Committee, Garry Kasparov, says that Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin has put himself in a dead end situation by starting the war against Ukraine. According to him, ending the conflict could cause internal unrest in Russia and threaten the existence of the regime.

“The regime cannot exist without war”

“For Putin, war has already become a way to maintain the regime. The regime cannot exist without war… If we listen to what Russian propaganda says, what Putin himself and his entourage say, there is no indication that the war could end tomorrow. And we are not even talking about ending the war, but about a ceasefire.”Kasparov said, according to Dialog.ua.

He argues that any cessation of hostilities would immediately raise the issue of the Russian military and the reintegration of the military into society. “Any cessation of hostilities he asks Putin about the army: what to do with it. It is about a million people, most of them – drug addicts, murderers, ordinary people with a completely different life algorithm. Return them back to Russia? We are already seeing what happens when even a thousand people return. It is a sudden increase in crime, a huge tension in society. A million people – never! That means he will have to look for other objectives for the war. And, most likely, these will be the Baltic states. The war will continue as long as Putin has the resources to continue it”said the Russian opponent.

Harsh criticism of the peace plan promoted by the US

Kasparov also commented on the peace initiative for Ukraine and Russia promoted by the United States, expressing his skepticism about the real goals of the negotiations.

These negotiations were doomed from the start… They were not peace negotiations, but an attempt to make a deal between Trump and Putin, therefore the negotiators on Trump's side were his son-in-law and business partner, not (US Secretary of State) Rubio. And from the Russian side it was not (Foreign Minister) Lavrov, but Dmitriev. It's Putin's wallet! It was about an attempt to sell part of Ukraine to Putin for certain concrete advantages… Trump gave Putin carte blanche to win the war… Overall, Trump tried to force Ukraine to accept, in my opinion, catastrophic terms. Ukraine has resisted once again, despite all expectations”concluded Kasparov.

The statements come in a tense context, where the prospects for a quick end to the conflict seem increasingly remote, and fears about its expansion remain high.
