We also have a solid increase compared to last year – then in January-February a donut from a bakery usually cost about PLN 4.25.
However, PanParagon experts say that you can buy donuts much cheaper – in discount stores. The median price there is currently PLN 3.19. However, donuts have also become more expensive in discount stores. Back in January-February 2023, the median price there was PLN 2.21. Last year it was PLN 3.9 groszy.
“The study showed us an interesting relationship. On Fat Thursday, markets often offer large promotions, usually depending on the number of pieces purchased (e.g. cheaper when buying six), which is why the real price per donut from a discount store is often lower on Fat Thursday than on an ordinary day. This serves to attract customers who will also make other purchases at the same time. Despite this, the impact of inflation, which in recent years has translated into an increase in the costs of certain raw materials, energy and employee wages, means that these sweets 2026 we will pay more than in previous years,” notes Antonina Grzelak from the PanParagon application.
How many donuts do we buy on Fat Thursday?
On Fat Thursday, we buy donuts many times more often than on a regular Thursday — their sales increase more than tenfold. In the case of faworki, the scale of purchases is much smaller, and the interest in them increases only slightly, by 21%. This result suggests that faworki have a more permanent group of fans who consume it irregularly, while donuts remain a strongly “holiday” product – we read in the PanParagon study.
