He said Canada had treated the United States “grossly unfairly” for decades.
The country is now building a massive bridge between its province of Ontario and the US state of Michigan, owning both the Canadian and US sides. Trump also chided Canada for building it with virtually no American resources because former US President Barack Obama gave them permission to circumvent the Buy American law.
“Now the Canadian government expects me, as President of the United States, to simply allow them to take advantage of America!” – Trump wrote. He was outraged that the United States was not receiving any benefits.
He also recalled that Canada does not stock American spirits and other alcoholic products on its shelves. In addition, Trump said that Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney wants to conclude a deal with China “that will swallow Canada alive.”
“I will not allow this bridge to open until the United States receives full compensation for everything we have given them, and, just as importantly, until Canada treats the United States with the fairness and respect we deserve. We will begin negotiations immediately. Given all we have given them, we should own perhaps at least half of this asset. The revenues generated through the American market will be astronomical,” Trump wrote.
