The testing took place after the match between ASA Târgu Mureș and Poli Iași, from the 13th stage, played on November 10, 2025, ended with a score of 4-0 for the hosts. The goals were scored by Cosmin Bârnoi (18, 53), Antonio Cruceru (31) and Vlad Bogdan (68).

According to the document issued by ANAD on January 21, 2026, metabolites of methyltestosterone were identified in the collected samples. The official conclusion states that “highlights the administration of the banned substance methyltestosterone. The identified substance is a non-specific one, permanently banned (in competition or out of competition) that is part of Class S1, of anabolic androgenic agents“.

Methyltestosterone is a banned synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid associated with increasing muscle mass and improving exercise capacity.

As of January 21, 2026, the player was provisionally suspended, and until January 27 the hearing before the ANAD Commission was scheduled. The notification was sent to the athlete, federation, league, Anti-Doping Commission of Serbia, WADA, UEFA and FIFA.

In the match with Poli Iași, Zukanovic was the starter and was replaced in the 85th minute. Later, at the end of 2025, he played in the matches with CS Tunari (2-1), Concordia (0-0), CS Dinamo (2-0) and ACSM Reșita (0-2). In the victory with Tunari, he provided a decisive assist.

The president of the ASA Târgu Mureș club, Liviu Muruțan, said that the player's contract was suspended. “We received the notice from ANAD on the same day it was issued, January 21, 2026, and immediately suspended Zukanovic's contract. From that day he was no longer with the team, he no longer trained with us. More than that, we don't know where he is or what he's doing now. He came from Unirea Ungheni and joined us when the merger took place last summer. He had a contract until June 30, 2026. Now we wait to see if the club will be asked to give explanations to ANAD or other institutions“, the official told GSP.

The mentioned source also states that the footballer appeared at the first hearing, and the Commission has 30 days to make a decision, which can be contested later.

Zukanovic arrived in Romania in October 2022, when he signed with Metaloglobus, after the transfer from ND Gorica. He later played for Unirea Slobozia and Unirea Ungheni, and in the summer of 2025 he moved to ASA Târgu Mureș, in the context of the merger between the two clubs.
