Judge Alin Ene, a member of the Superior Council of Magistracy, accuses a strategy that is based on “manipulation, denigration and delegitimization” to bring the level of trust of the population in Justice close to that of the Government and Parliament, according to a message published on Facebook.

In his post, he says that this strategy comes from the government and political spheres, and then turns to a quote from the American writer Mark Twain that he says “long ago warned not to fall prey to this strategy”.

“NEVER ARGULE WITH FOOLS! They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience”, conveys Alin Ene.

What is the strategy that the judge accuses

In his argument, Alin Ene cites an Inscop survey, published at the end of January, in which trust in the Judiciary is at 25.4%. Lower percentages are found only for trust in the Government (18.4%) and Parliament (11.9%).

Citing these figures, he points out that “this reality contradicts the narrative aggressively pushed into the public space after the previous polls, when the promoters of the anti-justice discourse, conveniently packaged under the label of “reform”, used specific grievances to build a fiction of corruption and systemic rot, which would justify the decrease”.

The judge accuses a strategy to decrease the confidence of the population in the Justice and brings it close to the level recorded by the Government and the Parliament. Ene cites a drop from 44% to 25% in less than a year, without specifying the source of this data.

“Of course, this is also a strategy. When you can't grow, you bring the other down, so that the difference doesn't seem so big and you don't seem so small by comparison,” says the CSM member, then referring to the quote from Mark Twain.

Who is Alin Ene?

Alin Ene has been a member of the Superior Council of the Magistracy since 2023, until then he was president of the Ploiești Court, according to his own CV posted on the CSM website.

Ene was a police officer of the Ilfov County Police Inspectorate in the period 2009-2011, later holding legal positions at the Mangalia and Ploiești courts.

After the Recorder's publication of the documentary “Captured Justice”, he went public with several messages criticizing the publication's revelations and the magistrates who spoke publicly in the documentary. He described the documentary as a “simplistic and aggressive narrative” to make the judiciary appear “captured, abusive, controlled from within”. In his message, the CSM member says that those who have come out publicly to talk about the problems in the judiciary are magistrates who have been sanctioned in the past for disciplinary reasons.

The CSM member accuses, among other things, the lack of evidence in the Recorder documentary. He says the purpose of the material is to “manipulate public emotion.”
