The French government announced on Thursday that it has prohibited smoking in July 1 in the outdoor places where children can be present, such as beaches, parks, areas around schools, bus stations and sports installations.
“Where there are children, smoking must disappear,” said the French Minister of Health and Family, Catherine Vautrin, who warned that the non -compliance of the ban will be sanctioned with a fine of 135 euros, reports France Presse and Agerpres.
The freedom to smoke “ends where the right of children begins to breathe fresh air,” she added.
However, the prohibition will not apply to the terraces of the cafes or in the case of electronic cigarettes.
Smoking causes about 75,000 deaths every year in France. According to a survey conducted by the French League against Cancer, 62% of French are favorable to tightening restrictions on smoking in public places
